:: Zilla takes a bite out of “The Big Apple! |

Earlier this year Ronzilla landed in New York on February
9th...the same day in which The Beatles made their legendary
American debut from New York when performing on The Ed Sullivan
Show in 1964. Zilla not only had the opportunity to take a
taste of New York but a very Monster size bite of everything
it had to serve up. Zilla couldn’t make the visit complete
without stopping by to see one of New York’s more famous
residents...Lady Liberty! After seeing her in all her glory
Ron made a stop at Ellis Island where his grandfather had
arrived almost a hundred years ago when coming to America
from Italy. “It was surreal! I’ve seen The Statue
of Liberty before but Ellis wasn’t open at that time
and the ferries didn’t even take you near it. It was
very moving to stand there on the boat arriving at Ellis and
seeing and hearing the same thing Pappa did so long ago. When
I arrived back at port I had only 15 minutes to get clear
across town to a meeting I had at McFarlane Toys (Todd Mcfarlane’s
company...creators of Spawn and world renowned toy manufacturer).
For those of you who’ve been to New York, would you
believe it if I told you I made it on time? Well, I did and
it was only thanks to one of NYC’s finest cabbies! This
ended up being a very cool day...Bruce Dickensen from Iron
Maiden fame was at McFarlane and Zilla was extremely excited
to finally meet the legendary John Zazula (Johnny Z as the
industry knows him)...President of Megaforce Records and Crazed
Management. “This is the man responsible for discovering,
managing, signing, and producing Metallica. He’s basically
the sole reason that their the global entity they are today
and here we stood talking about Monsterus, the new album...and
he’s excited...very cool!” Zilla would then head
back to his hotel in Times Square only to arrive outside MTV
midday just as TRL was going live ‘on the air’.
While making his way out on the town that night Zilla was
approached by a girl who worked for David Letterman who invited
him to a taping of “The Late Show”. “Timing
was everything!”, Zilla said, “Everything you’d
want to have happen and more happened on this trip...one cool
thing right after another! It was however hard sitting their
in ‘The Ed Sullivan Theater’ during Letterman
without thinking of everything that has happened there...The
Beatles legendary February 9, 1964 performance that changed
music forever...Elvis’ infamous performance filmed from
the waist up...Jim Morrison’s and the Doors’ one
and only performance with Ed...and the list goes on and on.”
Zilla’s evening would wrap up as he made his way down
a few blocks from his hotel to yet another rock-n-roll landmark...Radio
City Music Hall. This is the place Stryper blew the roof off
of on November 14, 1988 while on their ‘In God We Trust’
Tour...just a little trivia tidbit for anyone whose as crazy
about them as Zilla.
